A lot of customers ask me what swaps into what so here is an explanation as far as what can and can’t be done. The 1999-2016 Ford F-250 F-350 F-450 F-550 cabs are very similar so the seats, dashboards, door panels, trim panels, carpet and headliners can be swapped around. In theory you could put a complete 2016 Platinum interior into a 1999 XL truck. The A B and C pillars are dimensionally the same from 1999-2010 so those swap around along with the seat belts and headliners fairly easily. In 2011 Ford added seat and front seat airbags which dropped the headliner down on the sides of the cab a few inches. As a result the A B & C pillars are lower on the 11-16 trucks compared to the 99-10 trucks. To get an 11-16 headliner to work in a 99-10 truck you’ll have to swap the A B & C pillars which mean swapping the seats belts as well as the upper section mounts differently.

Seat Swaps: The most common seat swaps are 08-10 and 11-16 seats swaps into 99-07 trucks. Be aware that most of the leather 08-10 seats are heated and memory, with the heat control on the dash and the memory module under the driver seat. In order the wire up the heat you’ll need to add a switch to the seat or wire it to the dashboard on an upfitter switch if equipped. As far as the memory module you’ll have to wire around that on the driver seat. I have instructions on how to do this. Also most high trim (Limited & Eddie Bauer) 2002-2005 Excursion seats are also memory.

The 11-16 seats in most Lariat and all King Ranch and Platinum will be power, heated, cooled and driver memory. Due to the amount of wires involved with wiring around the memory module under the 11-16 seats it’s a fairly big job to get power to the seats and even a bigger job to add relays to the seats in order for the heated and cooled features to function. Luckily Swap Helper has a product call the Seat Helper which is a very easy to install device to allows 3 heat and 3 cool setting. They also offer all the swap parts for the dashboard which I will get into later.

Dash Swaps: The most desirable dashboard to install in older Super Duty trucks is the 2013-2016 Lariat, King Ranch and Platinum dashboards as they have the taller screen often called the humped dash. The frame of the 1999-2016 is technically the same so they can all be mounted in. The big difference is the HVAC system. From 1999-2007 The HVAC unit is part behind the dash and part in the engine compartment. From 2008-2016 the whole HVAC system is behind the dash. The dash swap upgrades is basically a facelift as you retain most of your donor truck dash harness and splice or wire in the newer dash components into your dash harness. Swap Helper offers a full assortment of dash swap parts: Cluster Helper, Column Helper, Headlight Helper, HVAC Venting Helper and for some trucks the HVAC Control Helper. They are bringing new products to the market every year and have the absolute best parts and customer service for your swap needs.

Most common style dash to use in the 99-07 trucks is the 08-10 or 11-12 dash with the manual center dash HVAC control using a 05-07 manual HVAC control unit. For those with digital HVAC in 05-07 Super Duty or 02-05 Excursion the most common dash is the 08-10 or 11-12 with the 08-10 Digital HVAC center dash bezel using the Swap Helper HVAC controller piece. I think they offer something for the 11-12 dash bezel as well. Most customers run aftermarket screens for the stereo and some even run the large tesla style screen from Phoenix Automotive. What some guys will do to simplify the dash swap upgrade while still using the truck as a daily driver is to source an identical dash harness as their truck and wire in the donor wiring harness into the newer dash on a bench. Once everything is wire in you pull out the complete dash and install the upgraded dash. Again, this is more common if your truck or Excursion is a daily driver and can’t afford down time. If you need a donor harness please message me as we carry a decent selection of harness. Keep in mind the newer dashboard will already have the harness in it.

Door Panels: The 08-16 door panels are a great upgrade for the 99-07 trucks. The 08-10 door panels switches are green lit and the 11-16 door panel switches are blue lit. Most customers like the blue lit switches which means they need to source front door switches from a 2011 or 2012 as the 13-16 switches are dual auto and won’t work in the older trucks. Also the 99-01 door wiring is very thick wires which will require you to splice in 08-12 door wiring in order to get the wires small enough to hook into the new switches. 2002-2007 trucks have smaller wires and some of the connectors will plug and play into the 08-12 switches. I have information on how to wire in the newer door panels. You’ll want to swap the inside door cup pieces as well as the inside upper glass window sweep to ensure a tighter cleaner fit and look.

The 2017+ Super Duty and 2015+ F150 seats do not swap into steel body 99-16 trucks. The front of the front and rear seat tracks on the 99-16 are curved down while the seats in the aluminum trucks are flat mount. With the 11-16 seats being the most comfortable seats and being bolt in there’s really no reason to try to mount 17+ seats into a steel body Super Duty.

As far as wiring interchanges here is a breakdown of what is compatible (for the most part). 1999 2000 2001, 2002 2003 2004, 2005 2006 2007, 2008 2009 2010, 2011 2012, 2013 2014, 2015 2016. There some 1 year only wiring such as 2008, 2011 and 2016 but for interior swaps this isn’t very critical.
